Enneagon Movement is a dynamic Boorloo/Perth-based dance theatre collective known for their innovative fusion of contemporary dance and theatrical storytelling. Originally founded by a diverse group of young, passionate dance artists, Enneagon Movement creates immersive experiences that challenge conventional boundaries between dance and theatre. With a commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists, they work closely with early-career artists, creating opportunities to work, create and grow within the industry. Their work is characterised by a strong narrative focus, intricate choreography, and a deep emotional connection with the audience. Enneagon Movement has quickly gained recognition for their bold artistic vision and commitment to the Boorloo dance community.
Our Story
We began as a group of motivated young WAAPA graduates who were excited to create and share original work. In 2019, we presented our first FRINGE WORLD show titled 'Via Lactaea', in the upstairs foyer of a bar in the middle of the city. We went under the name 'Moving Cosmos' (it sounded cool at the time).
A few years went on and we became more serious about the work we made. In 2021, a group of 9 of us came together to create our first full-length work, Pursuit. This is where the name Enneagon was born, the name for a 9-sided shape in Latin.
We soon discovered that having 9 creatives was way too many cooks in the kitchen, so we had a meeting and agreed that Giorgia Schijf would become the 'Director' of Enneagon Movement as we know it today.
Upon making our second full length work 'Ignorance was Bliss', we came across many financial setbacks, really struggling to receive enough funding to put on the show as we imagined. After 3 funding attempts, we decided to do it anyway. We had a small grant from the City of Perth, fundraised with the ACF and decided to start weekly classes to help fund the show. This was October 2023, and we haven't stopped the classes since! These classes were the catalyst for Enneagon Movement not only being a company that just presented work, but a place for our community and supporting the independent sector.
The following year in May 2024, we managed to put on a full-length, site-specific work in The Liberty Theatre (on minimal budget), thanks to an incredible team who believed in what we did, amazing collaborators and generous sponsors who provided A LOT of -in-kind equipment! This was our dream come true and was one of Enneagon's biggest achievements to date!
Since then, with the force of the local community behind us, we have been running with the wind! Offering as much support as we can to emerging artists through our Pilot and Threads programs, embarking on regional and interstate tours, facilitating monthly workshops and continuing to make high-quality, entertaining yet accessible work for the people of Boorloo and beyond!
